For those who “Follow” my @thenaturalnadine account on Instagram or my @nadine_bee account on Snapchat, you may have noticed that I’ve been posting Instagram stories and pictures about my homemade bulletproof matcha tea and golden milk drinks. I have recently become so obsessed with these drinks that I’ve incorporated them into my morning and bedtime routines. Each drink offers insane benefits to protect or heal your body, and I’m so excited to share my findings and recipes with you!
I’ve written about the incredible benefits of matcha tea in my previous post, My 7 favorite teas that are good for your skin and body, but I live for waking up early and making my matcha, “bulletproof”! Dave Asprey invented “bulletproof coffee” which combines grass-fed butter and MCT (medium chain triglycerides) oil that’s supposed to give you more energy and help you burn fat throughout the day. Since coffee is quite acidic and causes breakouts because it increases your cortisol levels, I swapped out coffee for matcha. Plus, matcha has more antioxidants than coffee, gives you a focused calm without the jitters, and you won’t experience a mid-day crash. For my bulletproof matcha recipe, instead of using MCT oil, I add raw organic coconut oil and ghee (you can also use grass fed butter). I prefer not to use MCT oil because it’s derived from coconut oil and I’d rather have everything in its purest form with all of it’s nutrients.
My favorite bulletproof matcha recipe consists of ingredients that will not only help you burn fat, but protect your cells, consume vital nutrients, reduce inflammation, and remove heavy metals or toxins in your body from our polluted environment. Here’s the list of the key ingredients, aside from the matcha, and it’s benefits:
Turmeric – this spice contains the bio-active ingredient, curcurmin. It’s been found by researchers that curcurmin reduces inflammation and contains anti-cancer properties.
Ghee – this clarified butter is rich in butyrate acid, which is great for your gut since it decreases inflammation, and in turn, promotes healthy brain function.
Coconut oil – As I mentioned earlier, I like using coconut oil instead of MCT oil because I prefer to consume everything in it’s purest and most natural form from mother nature. Plus, coconut oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties – I go more into the benefits of coconut oil much further in my post The 5 Things I Do Everyday to Have a Healthy Mind and Body.
Organic almond milk – Adding almond milk to brings a hint of sweetness to the drink, but it also contains great nutrients like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc. I make my own almond milk at home to avoid any extra additives that most brands include, specifically carrageenan, which is a toxic ingredient that everyone should avoid! It’s a food texturizer that gives thickness to non-dairy products, but it’s been linked to colon cancer, malignant tumors or gastrointestinal inflammation. Making your own almond milk at home is so easy and it would only take you around 10-15 minutes to make. If you’re not for making your own, opt for finding organic nut milk that doesn’t have carrageenan as an ingredient.
Chlorella – this supplement naturally detoxes your body by latching onto any metals, pesticides or chemicals from your digestive tract and purifies your blood. It also increases your energy levels, boosts your immune system, improves digestion, is rich in iron and reduces your risk of getting cancer. I love the Sun Potion brand because it’s one of the highest quality brands in the market and it’s USDA organic.
Here is the Natural Nadine bulletproof matcha recipe:
1 teaspoon of Matcha Green Tea Powder – Organic Ceremonial Grade – Japanese (1oz)1 teaspoon of Organic Chlorella Powder – 111g Jar – Sun Potion
1-2 tablespoons of Organic Valley Purity Farms Ghee, 13 oz
2 tablespoons of Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, 15 Ounce
2 cups of boiled water
½ cup of organic almond almond milk
1 pinch of Simply Organic, Tumeric, 2.38 oz
1 pinch of Simply Organic Cinnamon Ground Certified Organic, 2.45-Ounce Container
Mix everything together with a hand blender or regular blender, then pour it into a cup and get ready to feel like you can take on the world!
Now, it’s time to tell you about my new bedtime drink, golden milk! If you eat a lot of processed foods, this is a great drink for you because it’s anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and promotes healthy cell function. I particularly enjoy this drink because it’s calming and helps me fall asleep faster. The “milk” I use isn’t from cows, it’s from almonds, and it’s described as “golden” because it turns a bright yellow color from the turmeric spice. Before making golden milk, you’ll have to create the golden paste first. I prefer making my own homemade recipe from Dr. Mercola and storing it in my fridge, but I make half of the suggested amount. If you prefer not to make your own paste, Gaia Herbs Golden Milk, 30 Count is the “golden paste” in powder form that’s just as effective and delicious.
Golden Paste recipe:
¼ cup of Simply Organic, Tumeric, 2.38 oz
¾ teaspoons of Simply Organic Pepper, Black Medium Grind CERTIFIED ORGANIC 2.31 oz bottle
2.5 tablespoons of Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, 15 Ounce
½ cup of filtered water
Add everything together in a stainless steel saucepan and stir together well with a fork until it turns into a thick paste. Transfer your paste in a glass mason jar and you can keep it in your fridge for up to two weeks.
Here is my recipe for making golden milk:
2 cups of organic homemade almond milk
1/2 a teaspoon of golden paste
1-2 teaspoons of Shady Maple Farms Organic Grade A Dark Glass Maple Syrup – 8 oz
Pour everything together in a stainless steel sauce pan over low to medium heat. Stir the mixture until fully blended and the mixture comes to a simmer, not a boil. You can also add in 2 teaspoons of raw organic honey or grade A maple syrup.
I’d love to hear about your favorite matcha tea or anti-inflammatory recipes. Please share them in the comments section or message me directly 🙂
