My Top Product Picks For The Colder Months Ahead

HairSkin1.JPG

As we head into winter where everything gets dryer, I wanted to share my top product picks for keeping your skin and hair, soft, shiny and moisturized. This curated list is only of products that are safe, organic, will give you the results you want, and you can use them all year round! There are a number of ingredients we should avoid at all costs that are found in most personal care products, but this industry is unregulated in the United States. Most commercial brands are made of toxic chemicals that have been linked in cancer, organ toxicity, skin irritations, allergies, and hormone disruptors, to name a few. You would really have to do your research and check if there are any hidden ingredients that aren’t listed on the label, since it’s also not required for consumer product brands to disclose all of them on their label. Did you know that 1,300 toxic ingredients are banned in Europe, but only 11 are banned in the United States? We apply many of these personal care products onto our skin, which is the largest organ on our body and it only takes 26 seconds for it to absorb those toxic chemicals! Thankfully, there are brands out there that actually care about the well-being of its consumers, so here are my top products picks that you can trust.

Did you know that 1,300 toxic ingredients are banned in Europe, but only 11 are banned in the United States?

ECO by Sonya lotion: Remember a couple years ago when there was hype around coconut oil because of it’s dynamic uses? I was one of those people who used pure coconut oil on my body as lotion, but it wouldn’t absorb well into my skin. I would have coconut oil marks on my clothes, bedding, or any belongings that I touched. Although it worked well as a moisturizer, it wasn’t sustainable to live my life leaving oil trails wherever I went, so luckily I found a super absorbent body lotion that’s coconut oil based and organic! This Australian brand’s coconut oil body milk is ultra hydrating, won’t leave you feeling greasy, and perfect for all skin types, especially sensitive skin that’s prone to irritations. I have had eczema since I was younger, but every so often when I get minor flare ups, this lotion really soothes and calms down my skin. This nourishing lotion is gluten free, organic, unscented, vegan and really leaves your skin silky smooth. It’s also a great lotion to use when you want to retain your summer tan, because of how hydrating it is! If you order a bottle on Organic Skin USA, use the code Nadine10 at checkout to receive 10% off your purchase! This lotion will last you at least 4-5 months, depending on how moisturized you want to be, and totally worth it to no longer be putting harmful chemicals on your body.

Tata Harper Face Moisturizer: I have combination skin, so although it has a healthy amount of moisture, it still tends to get dryer during the colder months. Thicker moisturizers haven’t worked out too well with my skin type because I’d appear even shinier or breakout in blemishes. Thankfully, I discovered Tata Harper’s Clarifying Moisturizer that’s hydrating yet very light. Every single product from this line is 100% natural and organic with active ingredients that work hard to prevent acne and reduce redness on your face, which I mentioned in my post, How I Cleared My Skin of Blemishes The Natural Way. You’ll love how this will feel on your face, and it has an amazing scent!

Intelligent Nutrients shampoo and conditioner: I’ve written about this brand’s skincare serum in Prepare to Bare the Skin on Your Face, but their haircare products are just as effective! The founder of this line, Horst Rechelbacher, also founded the Aveda Corporation, so you can expect that this new line will produce great results for your hair. The Intelligent Nutrients Harmonic Shampoo and Conditioner Set will leave your hair soft and moisturized, without feeling like it’s being weighed down. Shampoos have an average of 15 toxic chemicals, but these products are free of parabens, phthalates, silicones, sulfates or synthetic fragrances, and will really clean any built up residue in your hair. I have been using this shampoo and conditioner for two years now, and have recommended it to many of my friends who love the smell and how it makes their hair look and feel. I specifically recommended these products for a few of my friends with celiacs disease, and they noticed their bodies didn’t react because it’s gluten free.

Dr. Bronners hand sanitizer: Cold and flu season is upon us, and with the latest findings on anti-bacterial hand sanitizers causing hormone disruptions and muscle weakness, we need to be mindful of brands who make soaps and sanitzers with the 19 chemicals that have recently been banned by the FDA. I switched my soap to the Dr. Bronners brand about four years ago after learning about ingredients like triclosan and triclocarban that can do more harm than good, like disrupt your reproductive system. I would like to have kids someday, so I’ll pass on exposing those chemicals to my body. I love the Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lavender Hand Sanitizing Spray because it’s travel sized, has a lovely lavender scent that’s not overwhelming, and is only made up of three organic ingredients that are not on the list of banned chemicals.

COOLA lip balm: Keep your lips soft, smooth and moisturized with this organic chapstick that gives you SPF 30 protection against UVA and UVB rays. It contains no petroleum jelly that may have carcinogens, but more importantly it won’t break down the collagen in your skin or prevent your skin from breathing. Since I’d prefer to have plump, youthful looking skin and lips for as long as possible, I make sure to always avoid petroleum jelly! I love the COOLA Organic Lip Balm because it also doesn’t contain any artificial colors or synthetic fragrances, and it’s made of hydrating oils like beeswax, shea butter, coconut and avocado oil. But don’t worry, it won’t leave your lips looking shiny as if you’re wearing lip gloss, so you’ll still look au naturel, especially for my male readers.

I hope these products allow you feel like you can maintain your summer skin and hair during the winter months. I’d love to hear how they’re working for you as well, so please feel free to share your results with me 🙂

Naturally,
Nadine
